The Laba Rice Porridge Festival

The Laba Festival iscelebrated on the 8th day of the 12th lunar month in the Chinese calendar. The 12th lunar month is called ‘La’ in Chinese and eight is pronounced ‘ba’, which is how the name ‘Laba’ was derived.  It is also known as the La Ba Rice Porridge Festival.

 

The labaRice Porridge Festival—it is a popular traditional holiday in Northern ofChina, In ancient time, Buddhist temples often provided Laba rice porridges to the poor to show their faith to the Buddha. Now people make and eat rice porridges to celebrate the day.

The ingredients of Laba porridge: glutinous rice, corn, lotus seeds, peanuts,red beans, peas, millet, raisins. It was mostly contain with main eightingredients. You can add sugar or salt to make it tastier. When the porridge isfinished, it is customarily offered to the gods and ancestors as the sacrificefirst.

 

Then you can send to your relatives and friends. Finally, familyenjoys it together. To normally you should left some porridge, as it meansthere will be leftovers for each year.
